Training Details

 

Session 1 - Basics of a Deprived Case

Session 1 covers a history of Tulsa Lawyers for Children and an introduction  to the "deprived case," the juvenile court process and basic forms used in hearings.

Session 2 - Duties of the Child's Attorney & Responsibilities of DHS

Session 2 covers the duties of the child's attorney by addressing Oklahoma law, ethical issues and confidentiality.  It also covers the role of the Department of Human Services "DHS" in a deprived case by addressing the Department's general duties, restrictions on placement and moving a child in its custody, the jurisdiction of the court after termination of parents' rights, foster parents' issues and education issues for foster children.

Session 3 - ICWA/Court Procedures, Jury Trials & In Need of Treatment

Session 3 covers the Indian Child Welfare Act, including federal statutes and major issues to be considered in "deprived cases;" procedures in a "deprived case;" jury trials; and In Need of (mental health) Treatment, "INT" cases as they relate to children in "deprived cases."
